| CORE SAMPLE A 50-minute sampling of our new commissioned works hosted by the Ensemble with ongoing verbal interaction with the audience. Ideal to preview a full concert performance and promote interest in it as well as enhancing ongoing curriculum in Music and other areas such as Ethnic and Women’s Studies. THE BUSINESS OF ART A business plan for performing artists or anyone else interested in the “nuts and bolts” of how a performing arts organization runs. Invaluable as a career development tool, this seminar is a must for anyone planning a profession in the performing arts or arts management. Issues such as marketing, publicity, fundraising, grant writing, non-profit status – incorporation and board development will be discussed. REINVENTING THE CHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLE As audience demographics change and technology touches the ways in which people experience art, chamber ensembles are seeking new ways to engage audiences. Core Ensemble members discuss their vision of chamber works of the future, citing examples from their own repertoire such as Of Ebony Embers, Tres Vidas and The Silken Phoenix. Discussion will center on the process of creating the new genre of chamber music theatre as well as social and cultural issues explored in each work. UNUSUAL REPERTOIRE FOR SOLO PIANO Core Ensemble pianist Hugh Hinton discusses and performs examples of intriguing, challenging and unusual solo piano works. Repertoire will include extended techniques from the music of Henry Cowell, John Cage and George Crumb. Lesser known works such as those of Ruth Crawford Seeger and William Grant Still will also be examined. MASTERCLASSES IN CELLO, PIANO AND PERCUSSION 50-90 minute workshops for instrumental music students of all levels. | | ||||||
